From November 7 I am authorised to accept same sex NOIMs, the form that states your intention to marry.
That means from December 7 I am authorised to marry people of the same sex in Canberra.
Despite so much support from the community, this legislation, and my registration as a same-sex marriage celebrant, has collected a fair amount of negative feedback. To those people, I’m honestly surprised and disappointed. I won’t add to that because you’re probably already receiving similar surprise and disappointment from others and I don’t want you to feel hated. I’d just ask you to reconsider your position and try and accept a wider and more loving worldview.
You are absolutely entitled to hold your opinions, but you sit there pathologising other people’s choices; you sit there saying that other people being free to live their lives by their own light in some way opresses you, when it oppresses you in no way whatsoever. – Dan Savage
